Caledonian Canal Paddle
A paddle up the Caledonian Canal can be a nice tranquil introduction to kayaking. To avoid having to carry the kayaks up past multiple lock gates, it is recommended to start at the top of Neptunes Staircase where there is parking and a canoe launch pontoon. A gentle paddle up the canal gives spectacular views and wildlife. You can go as far as you wish before turning around and paddling back to the start point. Beware the wind predominately blows from SW to NE so what feels like a gentle paddle can be more challenging on the return.
